We were delighted to welcome Cat Smith, MP for Lancaster and Wyre, down to the green recently for a friendly game and a closer look at life at the club.
During her visit, Cat saw first-hand how crown green bowling offers gentle, enjoyable exercise for people of all ages, while bringing the community together and helping to tackle social isolation.
A club at the heart of the community
With around 80 members, Luneside & Rosebank is about far more than the bowling itself. Our social sessions run as part of the Communities Healthy & Active Together (CHAT) programme, working alongside local GPs on social prescribing — welcoming people who might otherwise find themselves isolated.
Beyond the green, the club offers a relaxed and friendly place to spend time. There’s a comfortable spot to enjoy refreshments and watch the games, a snooker table, and adaptive equipment so that older members and those with limited mobility can keep playing and stay involved.
Everyone welcome
Visits like this help shine a light on the role small community clubs play in keeping people active, happy, and connected. Our thanks to Cat for taking the time to come along, meet our members, and give bowling a go.
If you’d like to try crown green bowling for yourself, new members and visitors are always welcome — just come down to the club or get in touch with our secretary.
